HEALTH IS GOLF... GOLF IS HEALTH

Looking around and searching through golf web sites I found an article that brings nothing but good news for those practicing the sport.

A study made of a sample of 300.000 people by the Karolinska Institute in Switzerland shows that people who play golf are more lean to live more than those who doesn't, this is just another good reason to take into account golf as the best sport to play!

The study consider the fact that during a round of golf, players walk during periods up to 5 hours and during this time besides walking many kilometers and trying nothing but get birdies and pars people keep socializing, this are the reasons that make the sport a very healthy one.

Another interesting fact is that those with low handicaps show longer life rates than those with high handicaps isn't it great!!!!!! I don't know what people may thing about this but for me this is nothing but a major reason (or excuse) to find more time and opportunities to play.

Callaway in Canberra

Feeling kind of sad since I haven’t play yet after almost three months here at Canberra, but full of hope about doing it a.s.a.p. And doing some day dreaming about a new set of golf clubs I went to Callaway website and realized it has a few retailers here at Canberra and the best part of it, if got to understand well, is that some of them are having demo days for their new clubs under the fusion, x-series, women and the oldies but goldies Big Bertha models.
Probably I wont be able to buy them… (not yet but soon they will be mine) anyways I found interesting knowing that Callaway is making presense here at Canberra and knowing there is a distant hopefully chance of rejoining with Callaway… and yes I miss my clubs.

However so if you are interesting in going for your new Callaway clubs probably this information will be useful.
Retailers here at Canberra are:
  • Drummon Golf Fyshwick at 88 Newcastle St, Fyshwick
  • Federal Shop at Gowrie Road, Red Hill
  • Royal Canberra Golf Club at Bentham St. Yarralumla
  • The Canberra INTL CTR at CNR Jerrabomverra, Narrabundah
  • The Yowani Club at Federal Highway, Dickson.

More information about this can be found at the Callaway site.

Attrition

There is a common concern among Australia Golf clubs related to membership loss, apparently there is an attrition trend where even when there is some gain in number of members the loss rate is higher.
The golf in Australia group has release a very interesting report related to this in its section Golf Australia Club and Industry Research.
Apparently golf clubs have been loosing their members and most of them don’t even have a clue about the reasons, and what concerns them the must is the lack of knowledge about their members and their reason to leave. The report is based on any given golf club took as an example from those they have been working, and it shows some numbers that clarify this fact.

According to this report, during the period of 2001 and 2005 the club had an annual loss of 95 members, and about 430 members for the 5 years period which is bout the 43% of all the 2001 membership base.
The report excels the importance of clubs knowing their members as much as possible in order to keep them satisfied, identify what they expect from the clubs and of course prevent members quiting heir memberships.
The reasons why this is happening can be many, some of them are out of clubs hands but some others can be prevented and tackled, and this task is some much easier when clubs know their members needs and preferences.

There are some other data reports as other useful information that can be found in the Golf Australia web site.

Welcome to golf is golf!!!!!!

Golf couldn’t be a greater sport, once you play it -and once you have survived to the frustrating first steps of thinking you have learned something from last class and then, realizing with the next round that apparently every single mistake you tried to correct is showing up again-, there’s no way to stop.
I wish I had already a place to play and above all I wish I could have my golf clubs here with me, but as any traveler who appreciate saving some money I had to leave them back home. Anyways I’m back in the road again and ready to reactivate my game even knowing that Uni assignments seem to show up all together.
After almost two months I already have some information about golf at Canberra and from now on I’ll be sharing it as much as I can.
A list of canberra golf clubs is allready posted at the right top corner of the blog where you will be able to find their web sites. Unfortunately not all of them seem to have one.

Golf Around Canberra

Apparently Golf isn't a very common sport in Australia, or not advertised as it should.
You can ask any player all around the world about Australian professional golf players and they will come up with the name of Greg Norman (also known as the shark), a player who was ranked as the world's best player for some less than 7 years.

Even having this player at the PGA (professional golf association) you won't be able to see adds encouraging people nor aduls nor children to play this wonderful sport.
